Weevil, family Curculionidae, from Belize. The elongated 'snout', characteristic of the group, is used for both feeding and for boring a cavity in plant material in which to lay their eggs.
Handsome Fungus Beetle (Endomychidae: Stenotarsus sp.), most likely not yet described. (Monteverde, Costa Rica)
Tortoise beetle (Chrysomelidae: Cassidinae: probably a Mottled Tortoise Beetle, Deloyala guttata) from Iowa. Some tortoise beetles are capable of changing color by expanding or contracting pigment cells that control the amount of water under their cuticle; more moisture creates a shimmering mirror-like effect, while less reveals the base pigment underneath.
