A cockroach (Blattodea) feeds on a rotting fig in Monteverde, Costa Rica. Cockroaches have a bad reputation, but it's an unjustified one - less than one percent of all roach species interact with human habitats as pests, while the vast majority perform important ecological roles by feeding on decaying organic matter.
