Stink bug nymph (Pentatomidae) from Monteverde, Costa Rica.
An annual cicada (Neotibicen sp.) deposits her eggs under the bark of a young tree in Iowa. Upon hatching, the nymphs burrow underground, where they will feed on root sap until the following year when they re-emerge and molt into their winged adult form.
